The Inside Story
The Council of Mirrors

William Charming is a famous Everafter known for his role as "Prince Charming" in multiple fairy tales such as "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves," "Rapunzel," and "Cinderella." He is a dashingly handsome mayor of Ferryport Landing with an arrogant attitude. In the first few books, Charming was viewed as an enemy to the Grimms. However, Charming started to become an ally to the family as several circumstances changed, such as his relationship with Snow White and his loss of Ferryport Landing's election for mayor against the Queen of Hearts.

In The Council of Mirrors we find out Charming's true story. Charming was not originally the husband of Snow White, he was her brother-in-law. Atticus Charming, her original husband, was his older brother. The tale was originally called "The Murderous Blood Prince." Bunny Lancaster was Snow's mother. Atticus and Snow were betrothed but Bunny later heard Atticus abused maids and killed people. She begged the king, Atticus's father, but he wouldn't see the evil in his son. Eventually, it came to the point where Atticus abused and murdered Snow White, his own wife. So Bunny changed the story in the Book of Everafter. She tried a couple times but she wrote it with no villain so she had to make herself the evil queen and made her daughter hate her. After writing Atticus out of the story and into the margins, she rewrote William’s role as well. According to Bunny, William was a lazy and womanizing alcoholic before she rewrote him into having the princely role he has now. The reason for this was so Snow White would have a more appropriate suitor and to avoid people questioning Atticus’ missing role.
